September 25 & 26, 2010 – Wildwood BBQ Bash at Town Center

2nd Wildwood BBQ Bash September 25 & 26
If you did not attend last year’s Wildwood BBQ Bash at Town Center, you won’t want to miss this year. For those of you who did attend, we know we will be seeing you again. Last year’s event was a big success for the community which is why its back. But every time you do something, you learn, so this year we want to make it even better. It is difficult to judge what the communities’ response to an event is going to be when it’s the first time the event is held. After last year’s larger than expected response, and the number of persons signed up to participate in the BBQ this year being far greater than last years’ numbers already, we are expecting a crowd of approximately 20,000 over the day and a half event

To make this event even more successful than last year, while maintaining a fun and safe
atmosphere, the staff at the Wildwood City Hall has been working very closely with the
Wildwood Precinct in ensuring we have adequate police presence, traffic control, parking, and signage. This will also ensure that everyone who comes to the BBQ Bash can enjoy themselves while not impacting the surrounding subdivisions and businesses that are not in Town Center. The Wildwood Precinct is going to utilize the St. Louis County Police Mobile Command Center on the site as a point of high visibility for police presence. This way persons wanting to report an incident, children who become separated from parents, persons who lost and or found an article can clearly see a point to go to for assistance. Metro West Fire and Ambulance will also be posted next to the Command Center to be readily available for any person(s) at the event in need of their services. In addition we are going to have numerous officers on foot patrol, officers at locations of high volume traffic concerns, pedestrian crossings, the parking garage as well as other post around the event.

Parking in Town Center will be somewhat restricted. The City of Wildwood is currently working with the St. Louis Community College and Schnucks Grocery to acquire additional parking for the BBQ Bash. Shuttle bus service will be provided for offsite parking locations during the hours of the event.

To maintain the safest environment and in cooperation with the regulations mandated by the
Health Department, dogs and glass containers will not be allowed in Town Center during the day and half event. The event area is Town Center Plaza located directly behind the Wildwood Hotel.

Continue to look for updates regarding the Wildwood BBQ Bash in the Gazzette, on the City of Wildwood’s website, and in the Wildwood Precincts News Watch letter.

A Special Thanks ref National Night Out
On behalf of the St. Louis County Police, Wildwood Precinct and I want to extend a special thanks to the Lake Chesterfield Subdivision and all those who participated in another successful National Night Out on August 3rd, 2010 at the Lake Chesterfield Clubhouse lot. National Night Out is a way for the community (residents and businesses) to come together with their local police department to stand up against crime. The event may seem more like an outdoor get together but it is a way of showing our co solidarity in the fight.

Special thanks go out to Eleanor Weltmer, Lake Chesterfield Neighborhood Watch Coordinator for organizing the event. The below listed local businesses donated goods and services as raffles and prizes in a show of their support to the community as well. These events would not be possible without the support of our local businesses. Thank you.
